At WYG we embrace the use of Low Energy Design techniques to achieve internal comfort conditions. Often this is more about the building form and use of materials than it is about services systems.

We work closely with the other building designers to ensure that where possible external solar gains are treated externally from the building envelope, and that buildings are orientated to maximise winter sun and minimise summer heat contribution.

Where it is necessary to apply mechanical cooling and ventilation, we embrace a number of low energy techniques in an effort to minimise environmental impact and to restrict future maintenance requirement. Above all, WYG recommends high-efficacy equipment which when combined with appropriate controls, minimises the amount of carbon released into the atmosphere.

We do all this by using dynamic modelling software to model situations, to predict and to assess effect of solar, wind, micro-climate and other external influences that help shape the buildings we design collectively with the other design professionals.
