White Young Green
Mining, Quarrying & Minerals

The high level of technology required in the extraction, transportation and usage of minerals demands skills and expertise in a wide range of disciplines. White Young Green (WYG) provides effective management of the discipline interfaces and an integrated service from feasibility and environmental impact studies, through civil, structural and mechanical engineering, to transportation and restoration of exhausted and derelict sites.
Past mineral extraction
WYG has extensive experience of foundation design and ground improvement works design in areas of former mineral extraction, including piled foundations, ground stabilisation techniques by drilling and pressure grouting, vibro-compaction and dynamic compaction. Predictions of future settlements of former opencast sites can be carried out.
WYG can design and implement remedial measures where subsidence has already occurred at housing estates, farms, bridges, roads and drainage systems. We also undertake site appraisals for the development of land affected by past mineral extraction (for shallow and deep underground mining and backfilled opencast workings).
Future mineral extraction
Specialist advice can be provided in order to assess the feasibility of mineral extraction operations (for example for opencast mining, sand and gravel extraction).
Services available include:
- Reserve evaluations
- Slope stability assessments
- Hydro-geological ground modelling
