Good governance, at both local and national levels, is at the very foundation of prosperous and free society and WYG International has led many major initiatives to strengthen the capability of government to play its proper role in democratic society.

This work has taken several forms. In those European countries which have recently become part of the enlarged European Union, or who aspire to do so shortly, we have worked with national governments to align law and regulations to EU norms.

In many cases governments are assisted in developing an ‘enabling’ environment’, cutting through red tape for the benefit of citizens and business. WYG International can assist local administrations to cope with the new demands placed upon them as social facilities formerly provided by local state industries (schools, clinics, municipal heating and housing) have disappeared.

In parallel, WYG International works with civil society groups in many countries to enable them to play a full role in representing citizens and holding government to account.
