WYG plays vital role in securing Poland’s transport funding - 10/2/2012

Two major transport improvement projects in Poland have secured EU financing totaling €69m with the help of global multi-disciplinary consultant, WYG.

WYG assisted PKP Fast Urban Railway Ltd in securing €38m in EU funds which will help the €79m project in the north of Poland to begin.  Anticipated to start in May 2011, the improvements to modernise 30km of railway infrastructure and the construction of 1.5km in Tricity will cater for two million more passengers, help increase investment attractiveness and improve economic growth in the area.

In addition, the north east of Poland, WYG has secured €31m of EU funding on behalf of the City of Białystok for a €44m project to improve public transport in the city.  The project is expected to begin in the first quarter of 2012 and, through the implementation of a new a transport management system and a programme of highway improvements, will help reduce the amount of traffic on the road, improve road traffic safety and shorten travel time.

Andrzej Dziurdzik, Director of WYG in Poland, said: “The transport studies and feasibility analyses WYG undertook for both organisations highlighted that improvements were required in order for investment to be realised in the area.

“Securing funding for these projects was crucial to enable them to go ahead and will result in the economies of these areas being able to develop and attract further vital investment.

“We have a great deal of experience in securing financing as well as the implementation of major urban transport infrastructure projects which include modernization of all forms of public transport.”
