Our Safety Management team are helping ensure the safe installation of the iconic Christmas tree in London’s Trafalgar Square.
We have been retained by the Greater London Authority (GLA) as competent safety advisers since 2001 and, this year, have been given the responsibility to review and oversee this traditional event.
Since 1947, the Trafalgar Square Christmas tree has been an annual gift from the people of Norway, as a token of gratitude for Britain’s support during World War II, and is now the focus of celebrations in the capital.
The GLA’s in-house M&E contractor project manages the delivery and installation of the 25-metre-high tree. Our health and safety advisers were appointed to review the event management plan and associated risk assessment and method statement documentation supplied by the main contractor and various subcontractors involved in the operation. On the day of installation, we were also present to ensure safe systems of work were followed in delivering and raising the tree.
Our Health and Safety specialists also supported GLA during the 2012 Olympic Games as well as for the last four mayoral elections and are retained to provide a range of health and safety consultancy services including:
