On Tuesday, a group of pupils from Abbey Grange C of E Academy visited our headquarters. This initiative was part of the “Make the Grade” programme led by Leeds-based organisation Ahead Partnership.
“Make the Grade” aims to build sustainable relationships between businesses and schools to give young students hands on experience of the world of work and employers.
After a tour of WYG offices, the year 10 students had the opportunity to meet a few employees in a variety of roles and seniority levels. They talked to a graduate engineer, an electrical engineer and a digital marketer to get an idea about their day-to-day activities, their achievements and the education path they had followed.
To put in practice what they had learned, the pupils were given the challenge to build a truss bridge, which they completed successfully.
Marc Davies, Office Director and Head of Geo-Environment & Waste Resources, WYG commented: “We are delighted to welcome Abbey Grange pupils and give them a more tangible idea of what a career at WYG entails. We hope this insight will help them take the right decisions for their future.”
“It is of vital importance to us to enable education and career development to encourage young people to enter the areas of industry in which we operate. We have a duty to nurture new talent with the skills necessary to deliver success in the future.”
WYG has been a Partner of Ahead Partnership since early 2014 and is committed to supporting education and raising awareness of career opportunities in engineering.
