8 March 2017
Today, 8th March marks International Women’s Day (IWD) which is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity - #BeBoldForChange.
WYG has an excellent relationship with Ahead Partnership, a not for profit business that provides support and links between businesses and schools. It was this relationship that enabled WYG to support an event, hosted by Ahead Partnership, called Girl Tech.
The event is an initiative for girls aged 12-13 years that aims to raise awareness by showcasing the different job roles within the digital and design sector and was an excellent opportunity for WYG to show off the opportunities we could offer to students and contribute to the whole ethos of gender parity and IWD.
Tim Burkham, WYG, Marketing and Digital Manager and Julie O’Driscoll, WYG, Learning and Development Advisor attended the Girl Tech event in Leeds recently and have received excellent feedback from Ahead Partnership and the students themselves on the sessions they delivered.
Melissa Garrett, Project Manager, Ahead Partnership said: "Your commitment to sharing your knowledge and inspiring the future female generations in tech has been invaluable to the students and we really could not have provided such a fantastic experience without your time, effort and dedication."
