A team from Tweeds, part of global management and technical consultancy WYG, really got into the swing of things as they held their 4th annual golf charity day in aid of ‘One Brick at a Time’ on 13 September 2012.
The money raised was certainly up to par as colleagues from WYG’s Liverpool office worked together with other local companies to raise just under £5000 to support the refurbishment of schools in Western Uganda.
Held at West Derby Golf Club in Liverpool, seventeen teams, together with fourteen non playing guests including companies Chester and District Housing Trust (CDHT), Liverpool Hope University, VMM and Halton Housing Trust took part in the event to help support the international partnership project, One Brick at a Time (OBAAT).
The partnership creates opportunities by bringing together colleagues from various organisations based in the UK to work alongside Ugandan construction trainees, graduates and teachers as part of a skills exchange programme.
The money raised will help schools in the Rwenzori region of Western Uganda refurbish their facilities to create safe, secure and inspiring learning environments for their students and contribute towards materials and equipment to implement the refurbishment.
David Duncalf, Director, Tweeds said: ‘The weather was perfect for golf and we couldn’t have asked for more as the sun shone on us throughout the day. Everyone had an enjoyable time, especially at the 19th hole. The event started at 10.30am when the team breakfasted on coffee and bacon baps, before teeing off at 12.00 noon. Money was raised by each team paying an entrance fee of £350 with an added opportunity to ‘beat the pro’ on a par three hole at a cost of £10 per team.’
He added: ‘We have been supporting OBAAT for over five years and we are keen to raise awareness of the fantastic work they do.’
The event concluded with a dinner at 7.30pm followed by a charity auction and raffle.
The prizes included donations from Lovell’s who supplied goodie bags, Sutcliffe Consultancy who supplied a voucher for a round of golf for three at Royal Birkdale with evening meal, and UCML who provided a £50 golf voucher.
The overall winners were Fusion 21 (95 points), 2nd place Lovell’s (92 points), 3rd place Keepmoat (91 points) and 4th place Roseberry Group (90 points). Team Tweeds of WYG Group divided themselves across two teams and finished mid table.
