Two iconic buildings in Gloucester that planning experts from WYG helped to create have been recognised at the 2010 Gloucester Civic Awards.
The Gloucester Quays Outlet Shopping Centre won the ‘Special Civic Award’ and the new Sainsbury’s foodstore at Gloucester Quays won the ‘Best Building’ category as well as being commended in the ‘Best Climate Friendly Building’ category.
Both schemes were widely supported by the City Council, Gloucester Heritage Urban Regeneration Company and the general public. The developments started trading last summer and are seen as key to the regeneration of this part of historic central Gloucester.
Sarah Hawkins, Regional Director at WYG, said: “We are both delighted and proud that our work has been recognised by the Gloucester Civic Trust and its partners on the judging panel.
“The recognition of these schemes is testament to the commitment shown by the two developers, Gloucester Quays LLP & Sainsbury’s, and their professional teams in progressing these schemes in a tough economic climate.”
Gloucester Quays Outlet Shopping Centre was presented with the Special Civic Award in recognition of the significant contribution that the Gloucester Quays Outlet Shopping Centre scheme has made to the regeneration and environment of the City.
“These two projects have contributed significantly to the regeneration of the City centre both economically and socially and will enhance the sustainability of the city as a whole,” added Sarah.
