Leeds Based multi-disciplinary consultancy WYG was delighted to sponsor a team for the Yorkshire Inter-Schools Challenge, run by the Institute of Civil Engineering. The event was part of National Construction week 2003 and featured over 60 exhibitors, seminars and of course, the Inter Schools Challenge, which included 12 teams, and over 70 pupils from the region.
The competition was based around a natural disaster devastating Honduras in this case, a typhoon. Pupils were given limited funds and resources to design and build temporary hurricane shelters and water courses, and by all accounts the solutions were very impressive with points being awarded for such categories as technical ability and stability of design. Every team had a final year Sheffield Hallam Degree student on hand to act as advisor and members of the ICE were on hand to invigilate the competition.
WYG sponsored a team from Edward Sheerian School in Barnsley, who came an impressive 4th overall in the competition and we would like to offer our congratulations to Dale, Jake, Ryan, Carl, Jodie and Shaunie who were excellent representatives for both their school and the company.
