WYG International has been highly commended for a ‘Positive Environmental Impact’ award at the annual British Expertise Awards in London.
The high-profile ceremony, hosted by HRH The Duke of Gloucester, brought together major British consultancies in recognition of their activities in international markets over the last twelve months. The WYG International project was commended by a panel of industry experts, headed by The Duke of Gloucester, for its work on reducing gas losses in Central Asia.
Neil Parison, Managing Director of WYG International said: “Not only has the project been a remarkable success for us but this award also quite rightly recognises the positive environmental impact this project is having in Central Asia and for all those who are affected by the very real problems posed by harmful greenhouse gases.”
The project, which is nearing its completion, has paved the way for substantial reductions in leakages of environmentally damaging methane from approx. 20,000 km of ageing Soviet-built gas pipeline crossing the deserts and mountains of Central Asia. Leading an international consortium, WYG International has supported the development of a reliable and effective leak location, inspection, repair and maintenance regime on behalf of the national gas companies of Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.
