Hundreds of households in Somerset will benefit from the first ever solar farm in the county thanks to expert consultants from WYG securing planning permission for a scheme at Sandhill Park.
Permission has been granted by Taunton Dean Council for over 7,000 photo-voltaic cells which will provide enough energy for around 600 homes. The solar panels will generate around two million kilowatt hours of electricity and offset 130 tonnes of Co2 annually.
Peter Grubb, Senior Planning Consultant, WYG said: “Due to the nature of this scheme and the positioning on greenfield land there were a number of technical challenges to overcome.
“However, by applying our extensive experience and expertise in delivering planning permissions for complex development proposals we were able to win planning permission, within three months of submitting the application.” The scheme is anticipated to be operational and harnessing the suns energy by late spring.
