WYG has been working on behalf of Hutchison 3G UK Limited since May 2001. Our specialist telecoms town planning team has been responsible for seeking the necessary planning approvals within 19 local authorities. Over 250 sites have been examined.
Following their successful bid for the UK ’s primary 3G licence, Hutchison 3G has been busy developing a new mobile network across the country. Under the ‘3’ brand, Hutchison 3G delivers third-generation mobile multimedia and communications services in the UK, including live video calls, multimedia content and entertainment on the move.
The Government’s policy is to facilitate telecommunication systems whilst keeping the environmental impact to a minimum. WYG has been working closely with 3’s acquisition agents and technical teams to achieve this, providing consultation on the town planning aspects of developing the new mobile network in much of the south-west of England. Covering an area from Cornwall up to Herefordshire, WYG advise on design and location for new masts, balancing the constraints of planning policy, amenity considerations and best practice procedures, with the technical requirements of the 3g network.
The pressure to build a brand new network in a short space of time has required a highly efficient throughput of large volumes of planning applications and appeals. It has also required a thorough understanding of town planning requirements. 3’s video mobile network is now up and running and the task of continuing its expansion continues apace around the country. WYG is delighted to be closely involved in this multi-billion pound venture.
