WYG is delighted to have been appointed consultant to advise on technical issues relating to the implementation of real-time information systems for both Durham County Council and Edinburgh Council.
Real time information operates whereby global positioning satellite tracks the progress of the bus, this information is then compared to the scheduled timetable and used to work out at what time the bus will arrive at any stop along the route. This information can then be relayed to the customer through a number of different methods, e.g., a sign at the bus stop, a text message on a mobile or checking on a computer.
The purpose of the commission is to reduce delays experienced by buses, provide the operators and the Council with tools to manage the network to achieve more accurate bus operation and also improve the quality of buses for users within Durham and Edinburgh.
WYG will also assist in the development of specifications and the subsequent procurement of a real time system within Durham.
In Edinburgh WYG will provide independent consultancy advice, together with technical and project management support as part of the City Council’s Project Team. The Project Team will assess tenders, appoint a system supplier, manage implementation of the initial system and assess potential routes and corridors for future expansion.
This commission follows on from WYG's previous work for the City of Edinburgh Council to prepare the tender documentation and system specification.
