Richard Brown Head of Highways

Richard is a Chartered Civil Engineer with over of 30 years post graduate experience consisting of 12 years in various roles within local government and 18 years in WYG’s Leicester, Milton Keynes and Cambridge offices.

He is a specialist in the design and delivery of all forms of highway intervention and his experience ranges from the delivery of designs for major motorway junctions, new trunk and county road projects, high quality public realm public transport led projects and development schemes. His role in these projects has generally involved management of widely varying multidisciplinary teams, coordinating workstreams to ensure that projects are delivered on time and within budget.

Richard leads the company’s major highways capability and has direct responsibility for the Highways, Bridges and Infrastructure Teams at Leicester, Cambridge and our Ely Bypass site office. In parallel, he is Office Director for all three offices which comprises of 90 staff including engineers, transport planners, environmentalists, project managers and a site based team on the Ely Bypass site in Cambridgeshire. He has been part of the Senior Management Team at Leicester since the office was opened in 1999 and have, as part of this team, guided the development of the office through both organic growth and acquisition. Richard has established new WYG offices in Milton Keynes and Cambridge.

Richard is Project Director for a range of projects including major highways, developer led housing schemes, regeneration schemes and infrastructure associated with commercial, retail and industrial buildings. He has extensive experience in the design and project management of major junction improvements to both trunk roads and motorways and is familiar with Highways England’s standards and procedures.
