Our Cardiff office has secured hybrid planning permission for what will be the country’s largest Premier Inn hotel, along with speculative office development in Cardiff Bay. The work is for our client Aviva Life & Pensions UK Ltd.
The application site occupies a prime location next to the Wales Millennium Centre in Cardiff Bay. It forms part of the wider Aviva-owned Cardiff Waterside portfolio comprising Caspian Point, Assembly Square, Emperor House and Discovery House.
Proposals for the new 210 bedroom Premier Inn represent a £15 million investment. The hotel, which is set to be an iconic new landmark, will create approximately 68 new jobs and contribute significantly to the continued regeneration of Cardiff Bay. The hybrid planning permission also permits two new office blocks in outline of around 16,000 sqm of floorspace.
To meet Aviva’s timescales, our Cardiff office continues to work closely with Aviva and the local planning authority to make sure that remaining planning conditions are discharged. Construction is expected to begin in early in 2017.
We are also involved in the remaining development opportunities from extant office consents within the wider Cardiff Waterside estate area.
