Congratulations to our Head of Asset Management, Craig Hatch who was amongst the winners at the West Cumbria Community Heroes Awards 2016.
The event now in its third year was held at Whitehaven Golf Club on 25th November and recognises those in the local community who have made a difference.
Craig was awarded ‘Carer of the Year’ for his involvement with the national charity for sick children, Wellchild. Outside of his role at WYG, he serves as a parent representative and helped launched the #notanurse_but social media campaign which gives parents and carers the voice they need to shine a light on the reality of life at home, showing us what is working well and highlighting the changes so desperately needed.
On winning the award, Craig said: “I am delighted to receive this award in recognition of the #notanurse_but campaign which promotes awareness of the role of carers providing complex health care in a home environment. I also consider that I am receiving the award on behalf of all parents and carers of children with complex health needs as I know first-hand the additional work required to provide this. To be named West Cumbria Carer of the year is a great honour, especially as I know that in reality I am only the second most dedicated carer in my own household, after my wife Ellis!”
The Awards are run in association with Sellafield Limited and organised by The Whitehaven News, Times & Star and CN Events.
This is the second award Craig has received this year for his involvement in the #notanurse_but campaign – see ‘related articles’ below for further information.
