WYG Business Breakfast - Exeter
There are good prospects for housing development in the South West, housebuilders, landowners and other property professionals heard at WYG’s Exeter business breakfast yesterday.
Our Wellington planning team outlined opportunities for housing development at the event, which was attended by around 50 guests from the property industry. Director Robin Upton gave an overview of the current five-year housing land supply position for the region’s local authorities and identified where there was inadequate supply. He pointed out that, with the right evidence and correct timing, local authorities’ housing requirements or delivery rates could be challenged.
Darren Summerfield and James McMurdo, from WYG, explained that Exeter itself had a mixed position in terms of housing land supply but there was a commitment to accelerated housing delivery. Darren and James also described the evolving political landscape and the move by 17 authorities in Somerset and Devon towards a Combined Authority.
Simon Coles, head of the Wellington office, said: “It was great to see so many guests at the breakfast. As our presentations demonstrated, there is plenty of scope for housing development but realising these opportunities depends on a thorough understanding of the current housing land supply positions and the political landscape.”
WYG offers full Objectively Assessed Needs assessments, both for evidence for local plan examinations and in support of planning applications.
