South Hams District Council and Plymouth City Council have granted permission for the first phase of a new town in Devon, following planning work from WYG for Linden Homes, who form part of the Sherford Consortium.
The first phase will deliver much needed homes to the area as part of the new town named Sherford, located west of Plymouth.
Building work on the billion pound development will begin soon with the total development providing around 5,500 homes, four schools, a library, GP surgery, business parks, town hall, community centres and parklands.
WYG acted as lead planning consultants for Linden Homes on their reserved matters application, who now have detailed consent for 164 homes in this initial phase.
Catherine Knee, WYG Principal Planner said: ‘We are extremely excited to be part of the Sherford development which has been in the planning stages for the last 20 years. The brand new community will support government plans for tackling the current housing crisis across the UK.’
The news coincides with the official launch of the Sherford Consortium, a partnership of the three house builders who will be responsible for the creation of the town - Bovis Homes, Linden Homes and Taylor Wimpey.
