On 26 March, the Government announced a number of changes to be introduced to the General Permitted Development Order (GPDO) and the Use Classes Order (UCO). This announcement has also coincided with a Written Statement to Parliament, from the DCLG, released on the same day, highlighting further change, aimed at streamlining the planning system, protecting the environment, supporting economic growth and assisting locally-led decision-making.
The changes to the GPDO and UCO are to come into force on 15 April, with a selection of key provisions as follows:
In terms of the DCLG announcement, a new Development Management Procedure Order will come into force, also on 15 April, and will include changes to improve the process of statutory consultation and the introduction of a new ‘deemed discharge’ of conditions, to reduce delays starting on site. Further guidance is being issued on the vacant building credit process.
