WYG has always had a strong bond with the armed services and a long history of working alongside service personnel in difficult conditions. As 2014 was the 100th anniversary of the outbreak of World War I, we wanted to recognise this and show our support for services communities. The incredible work of The Royal British Legion was a great opportunity for this and we were proud to become involved in its fundraising efforts.
As part of a week of activities, WYG volunteers took to the streets in London and Manchester to support Poppy Day. Many employees were keen to volunteer their time “to the memory of the fallen and the future of the living” as the work undertaken by The Royal British Legion resonates with much of their personal and professional lives.
Alongside more than 2,000 other volunteers, we helped raise £1.25 million in London and over £30,000 in Manchester. Graham Oliver, Chief Operating Officer, commented “This matters to us because much of our work is also focused on making a positive impact on the living and working conditions and the welfare of service personnel their families."
