For the second year in a row, one of our colleagues at WYG Group has been presented with the Best Assignment award by the Chartered Institution of Civil Engineering Surveyors (ICES). This time around, our Senior Geospatial Surveyor, Rafe Holmes, received the distinction upon graduating from a 12-week course with The Survey Association (TSA).
Rafe was recognised for his 'first class' surveying work and setting out the design for a new housing estate and access road. The design was based on a site near Southampton that underwent a topographical survey by our team. The brief was to use the survey data to design a housing estate with at least six properties, along with a new road and drainage. This included technical construction drawings and a description of the methods used to set out tasks over the project's life cycle.
This 12-week TSA course has been invaluable to our surveyors, and is one of the only professionally recognised ones in the country. As an added bonus, passing the course gives surveyors half of the credits required for RICS membership. The course is broken up into six two-week blocks over two years, and each is marked on commercial report writing ability, presentation, understanding of survey techniques, and more.
Thus far, five of our colleagues from the geospatial team have participated in the course. Just last year, our Geospatial Surveyor, Declan Meban, also received the same Best Assignment accolade. We look forward to furthering the growth and upskilling of our teams in the years ahead.
