Our mechanical & electrical engineering experts in Belfast and our Manchester BREEAM team are celebrating success having reached completion following work on a hospital enhancement project of over ten years.
The hospital was recently handed over to the client, Western Health & Social Care Trust and saw WYG successfully provide M&E and BREEAM services.
Stuart Kyle, Head of M&E in Belfast said: “What a wonderful project to be involved with. Challenges in healthcare are the buildings themselves as they are very complex so we ensured good coordination between the project team for the design elements.”
As sustainability was also a key driver for the project, WYG incorporated design features such as LED lighting and controls, dual fuelled boiler plant to deliver a BREEAM Excellent target when a natural gas pipeline is extended to Omagh in 2018. This was achieved through close liaison with the project architects, Todd Architects, during the early design stages to support façade design to minimise energy consumption.
WYG worked alongside McLaughlin & Harvey, Dowds Group and R&F Mechanical to ensure success of the project.
The new hospital represents the first of a national series of enhanced local hospitals, offering the full range of patient care pathways from GP Surgeries, to in-patient accommodation, diagnostic imaging and Day Procedures/Minor Surgery. The project also included a new Trust wide HSDU, providing instrument cleaning from a central location serving both the South West Acute Hospital in Enniskillen and the Altnagelvin site in Londonderry.
The Omagh Hospital and Primary Care Complex officially opens its doors today providing a range of important healthcare services to the community. This will cover a range of primary, secondary and community healthcare services, appropriate for local delivery, to the people of Omagh and surrounding district.
