Build New York Live is a Building Information Modelling (BIM) driven, virtual design, competition.
At 6pm on Monday 21 September, team ‘One WYG’ will be pitched against design and consultancy teams from around the world in a 48 hour battle of technology, process and design to “Build New York Live.”
Once the official project brief is released at 6pm, teams have 48 hours to deliver a multi disciplinary asset.
Team ‘One WYG’ consists of 12 different work streams within WYG, from architectural design to environmental planning, all based at various locations around the UK, with the additional input from specialist external consultants.
Our industry is shifting towards a digital future with the recent release of the Digital Built Britain Strategy and the construction 2025 targets. Build New York Live is part of a broader training initiative that we are adopting as we move our multifaceted approach towards BIM level 2 compliance so we can continue to deliver best practice in service.
There are many benefits to taking part in Build New York Live. First of all, this is a high profile event that presents a very unique training opportunity. Working in a very realistic setting, participants are under very high pressure to deliver solutions within very tight time constraints, but without the inhibiting financial risk.
It is also a perfect environment for our team members who operate in separate services to interact more with one another. This collaborative space enables people to come together and share more valuable input into a design.
A group of students from Well Acre Acedemy in Manchester will also join the team to observe the competiton and lend a help hand. At a time when skills shortage is a concern in the industry, it is our duty to promote professional development in all our disciplines and this represents a perfect opportunity to do so.
The experience of Build New York Live may only last 48 hours, but it is expected that all participants will gain knowledge and experience that can be transferred and applied to our day-to-day operations.
Ultimately, the greatest gain will be for our clients, who will benefit from our BIM expertise and leading edge outlook.
