Our Belfast-based Project Manager, Caolain Boyd, has earned himself a highly prestigious accolade this week at the BIM Awards 2018. For his work with Southern Regional College, he picked up the award in the category for “Doing It: Project Manager/Cost Consultant.” The ceremony was held at the Boiler Shop in Newcastle on 27th February.
The award acknowledges excellent leadership, management of digital construction processes and Building Information Modelling – an intelligent 3D model-based process giving architecture, engineering, and construction professionals the tools to efficiently deliver buildings and infrastructure.
In conjunction with bridging the information management and project management gap between WYG and SRC, Caolain empowered the team to develop their BIM capabilities and implement innovative processes. He tied together data drops and information exchanges with existing project management toolkits, such as project programmes and information release schedules. Models were uploaded bi-weekly for the client to review throughout the design process, and not just at stage-complete data drops.
Prior to the government mandate of BIM Level 2, he took charge as WYG Project Manager to achieve BIM Level 2 Excellence on the SRC project, having co-written the design team’s BIM Execution Plan that outlined procedures and processes in line with the BIM Protocol.
Last year, Caolain co-founded the BIM for Project Managers (BIM4PM) community group along with fellow WYG PM Tim Hanna to raise awareness of and support project managers in BIM delivery via seminars and workshops across the UK and Ireland.
We are proud of Caolain’s efforts in championing the ethos of BIM and adopting a truly collaborative approach across the client and design team from the outset. Our teams continually improve services through the development and use of emerging technologies.
Caolain said: “I am truly honoured to accept this award, and I hope it reflects on our commitment to implementing the UK BIM government mandate, and to exceeding our clients’ expectations. Our implementation of BIM level 2 gives our clients a suite of information management services that deliver efficiency, transparency and consistency across our services.”
