Congratulations to Tim Hanna, Principal Project Manager in our Belfast office who has recently achieved ‘RICS accredited BIM Manager’ certification following exams and CPD. The accreditation sets the standard that demonstrates the skills and competence of construction professionals in using Building Information Modelling (BIM).
Tim began his studies last year by enrolling on the RICS BIM Project Management course which highlighted the skills and responsibilities of a BIM Manager as well as covering the entire project life cycle through an interactive training programme. The course taught key components of the BIM process such as; how to create an EIR (Employers Information Requirements) and BEP (BIM Execution Plan), processes and standards applicable to the management of the asset information throughout its lifecycle and understanding the technology and CDE (common data environment) that supports BIM. The course concluded with an examination across all aspects of the course.
Following the examination and to achieve the RICS accreditation, Tim was required to complete a case study based on his BIM experience, which was assessed by a group of experts from across the industry. He provided a 2,000-word BIM case study detailing his personal involvement, capability, knowledge and understanding of BIM, detailing his BIM experience on the Strule Shared Education Campus project.
Tim conducted the dual role of Project Manager and Information Manager on the project, which will see the relocation of 5 post primary schools onto one brownfield site. Given the scale and complexity of the project, it was paramount for both client and WYG that BIM process and procedures were implemented across the design of seven major buildings and wider campus.
He said: “Our clients can now have peace of mind when working with WYG in a BIM environment, knowing that we are fully capable of fulfilling BIM services. Our management process and procedures will be standardised to make BIM delivery business as usual. Investing in upskilling our resources in the BIM process aligns with WYG’s core values, as it’s an investment in technology, efficient ways of working and value for our clients.
Project Managers are best placed to drive the BIM Strategy on any project as they are tasked with enabling behaviours, ensure designers don’t work in silos and can align a BIM process with a client’s programme and stakeholder ambitions to successfully achieve their end goal”.
