WYG’s Southampton office held its annual Business Breakfast at The Hilton Hotel at The Aegeas Bowl in Southampton on the 5th February.
At the event, guest speaker Christopher Boyle QC told the 130-strong audience that the planning system is failing to cater for housing demand and that there needed to be a step change in the interpretation of the requirements of the National Planning Policy Framework to boost housing supply.
Guests also heard Martin Hawthorne, Director of WYG’s Southampton office, present a case study on how WYG had successfully achieved planning permission for new homes through early community engagement. WYG, with client Miller Homes, first worked closely with the local community to secure the allocation of a site for 73 new homes and sports pitches in the Neighbourhood Development Plan before winning planning permission. The project was highly commended in Planning Magazine’s Planning Awards.
Martin said: "It was fantastic to see so many guests, including housebuilders, landowners and fellow property professionals, at what is becoming a firm fixture in the business calendar. We were also delighted that Christopher could speak at the event.”
