Army veterans are helping to build their own homes, with support from our construction specialists.
The scheme, for 16 new flats in Wrexham in North Wales, is providing ex-forces personnel opportunities for work experience, training, and qualifications across a range of areas. When complete, the self-builders will all be offered tenancies within the complex.
We are acting as Employer's Agent and Principal Designer for what is our second veterans’ accommodation scheme in Wrexham, and third project for First Choice Housing Association (FCHA).
Williams Homes and the Community Self Build Agency are working together with FCHA on the scheme which is part-funded by the Ministry of Defence Veterans Accommodation Fund. Work will finish by May 2018.
The development is called Ty Ryan, in memory of former FCHA Chief Executive Hilary Ryan who passed away earlier this year.
Adrian Burke, chief executive of FCHA, said: "First Choice Housing Association is delighted to be able to support the veteran community within Wrexham by working with them to deliver training and employment opportunities as well as much needed high quality accommodation in a central location. WYG is offering support and its team is an integral part of the project.”
