Northern Ireland’s Department of Education has appointed WYG for the project management and CDM Co-ordination of a modern facility for Braidside Integrated Primary School in Ballymena.
The £4.5m develop-and-construct scheme entails a new 14-classroom primary and nursery school that will bring together children and staff from Catholic and Protestant traditions, as well as those of other faiths, or none. It carries considerable importance for Braidside, which has spent the last 25 years in mobile classrooms.
Supporting the integrated sector remains a key area of development in Northern Ireland, and we take pride in bolstering the school’s important work in delivering education to that sector.
Since the project’s inception, WYG has overseen its progress, from the design’s steady development and evolution, to achieving planning permission, and going through the tender release process.
We have been collaborating closely with designers at Isherwood & Ellis Architects, and just recently, we have reached the milestone of appointing Glasgiven Contracts Ltd. as the Main Contractor for the scheme.
Sandy McAuley, Project Manager, commented on the scheme: “We’ve just entered the pre-construction period and expect to hit the site in the next few months. I really look forward to working closely with Glasgiven Contracts in delivering this much-needed new build for a well-deserving school.”
