WYG is providing civil and structural engineering services for the new £57m Leeds City College Quarry Hill campus in the heart of the city’s cultural quarter. Our civil and structural team has been appointed to work directly for the project’s main contractor Wates Construction which has secured a contract worth approximately £37.7m.
It is expected that works will complete by summer 2019, ready for the 2019/2020 academic year.
Matt Cooper, Structural Lead for WYG said: “We are very proud to bring our civil and structural design skills to this very exciting landmark project, which is in a prominent location in the centre of Leeds. We are excited to see this take shape during the construction phase over the coming months."
The new campus will eventually be home to the college’s Creative and Digital Arts and Health and Social Sciences departments. It has been part-funded by a £33m grant from the Leeds City Region Local Growth Deal, administered by the Leeds City Region Enterprise Partnership (the LEP).
Designed by Ellis Williams Architects, the new development will be located on Eastgate and will sit alongside Leeds College of Music, West Yorkshire Playhouse and the Northern Ballet Theatre.
The appointment builds on WYG’s extensive experience both in Leeds and in the further education sector including Leeds College of Art currently under construction. Iconic Yorkshire projects on which WYG has worked include the Headingley Carnegie Stadium, Kirkstall Forge and the Leeds Housing Regeneration Project.
