We are pleased to announce that our project at Lowestoft Docks, Suffolk has been shortlisted for the ‘Ground investigation project with a geotechnical value of up to £500k’ award at this year’s Ground Engineering Awards 2017.
WYG were instructed to undertake a multidisciplinary ground investigation at Lowestoft Docks for a proposed flood risk management project. The prime purpose of the project was to provide an assessment of the ground conditions and geotechnical data for the purposes of enabling detailed design work to be undertaken.
The final scope delivered by the geo environmental team included the drilling and instrumentation of 13 boreholes including vibrating wire piezometers with data logger, cone penetration testing for UXO, trial pits, concrete cores and window sampling. An asbestos survey and pre and post condition survey of the Grade II listed Royal Norfolk and Suffolk Yacht Club, with associated vibration and crack monitoring, was also undertaken by WYG.
Ben Swallow, Associate, WYG said: “This is a great achievement for all involved within WYG and we are pleased to be shortlisted for this award for the second year running. The success of the project was defined by the efforts of the site teams to complete the work on time, under budget, to the required specification, with minimal environmental and social impact".
This year saw a record number of companies entering the Ground Engineering Awards and making the shortlist is a real achievement in itself.
The awards ceremony will be held on 5th July at the Hilton Park Lane, London bringing together industry professionals to celebrate engineering excellence.
