WYG has been utilising Extranet systems for a number of years and has recently aligned with one of the leading industry Extranet providers, 4projects, to deliver a WYG Corporate Extranet solution.
The extranet will provide an essential online resource for project information that can be accessed by WYG staff and clients that are invited to view the site. This will enable the whole project team to collaboratively manage drawings, schedules, programmes, risk assessments, photographs and important events relevant to particular projects and their individual businesses. In addition, the fact that it is viewed through a standard web browser means that the information can be accessed at any time from any location.
4Projects currently provides extranet services to a broad spectrum of companies across the construction industry. Richard Harrison from 4Projects said:
‘4Projects now has over 20,000 users on more than 9,000 projects in countries around the world. The company is focused on the provision of construction extranets and we have that staff, expertise and equipment to maintain and sustain the most reliable and up to date services.’
The service will be a valuable asset to WYGand Mike Procter, Group Director for WYG, said:
‘This is an exciting development for the Group. The new extranet will enable WYG to disseminate knowledge more efficiently throughout its supply chain, allowing all parties to profit from the time and cost benefits associated with collaborative working.’
Collaborative working has become increasingly prominent within the UK construction industry, with over 20% of all UK construction projects and up to 40% of those over £10m predicted to use project collaboration tools. These tools provide a standard method of working that will enable best practice and drive waste out of the construction process.
