Major EU Funded Economic and Social Integration project in Turkey is Supported by DeLeeuw International, part of WYG International.
A major management project is underway that aims to mitigate the adverse impacts of rapid migration in some of Turkey’s biggest cities. The 18 month long project is funded by the European Union with a budget of €8.1m (£6.9m). DeLeeuw International, part of WYG International has been appointed to support this initiative through the provision of socio-economic and project management expertise.
The project is crucial to strengthening the institutional capacity and urban plan development in some of Turkey’s major cities including the Metropolitan Municipalities of Istanbul, Izmir, Ankara and Bursa that have a combined population of approximately 30 Million. A key socio-economic benefit that the project is expected to deliver will be the rehabilitation and social reintegration of street children through capacity improvement of Metropolitan Municipality staff. It is anticipated that mitigation measures will be identified and implemented through the development of strategic plans, environmental impact assessments, operational programmes and feasibility studies.
Levent Erkan, Managing Director of DeLeeuw International, part of WYG International commented:
“This is a significant project for Turkey and the EU that will provide important frameworks to combat some of the current socio-economic difficulties that Turkey faces.
