Expert consultants from WYG are investigating a site in Whitehaven to see if it’s suitable for a new £11 million sports stadium.
Eleven potential funding sources for the facility have been identified, and if gets the go-ahead, will be a multi-purpose stadium for local football and rugby teams with possible indoor tennis centre on the Pow Beck Valley site.
WYG has been commissioned by Copeland Borough Council to compile a technical appraisal for the Pow Beck Valley site prior to submitting a planning application for the scheme.
John Kipling, Regional Director at WYG Engineering said: “As a multi-skilled consultant, we will be drawing on our expertise from across the business to look at issues such as land suitability, planning, transport and access for this proposed stadium.”
The study is expected to be completed by the end of March, and if all goes to plan, an application for planning permission should be submitted around November, with a proposed construction period starting in Spring 2011.
