Accolade awarded for raising the profile of consultancy and engineering.
Lynden Cable, an outstanding ambassador for civil engineering with over 17 years experience, has been awarded the Association for Consultancy and Engineering/New Civil Engineer (ACE/NCE) ‘Outstanding Contribution Award 2009’. He was presented with his prestigious award at a gala dinner in London on 20 March 2009. Lynden is a Chartered Civil Engineer and part of the WYG Engineering team based in Leeds.
The ACE/NCE Awards recognise teams or individuals who have made an outstanding contribution to raising the profile of consultancy and engineering in the community or the wider world. Lynden won the award for the exceptional role he plays in promoting civil engineering in schools through his role as Regional Education Coordinator (REC) for the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE).
Through his role as REC, Lynden has not only managed to inspire thousands of children through educational activities, but he has also forged strong industry links across all sectors of the profession. He has encouraged colleagues from the environmental department at WYG to become ambassadors for the industry and engaged professionals from other engineering organisations within the Yorkshire and Humber area. More recently, he has helped create collaborative partnerships with other industry governing bodies such as the Royal Institute of British Architects, the Institution of Structural Engineers, and the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, supporting them in getting their own initiatives off the ground.
Lynden Cable, Principal Engineer, WYG said: “Receiving such a prestigious award for doing a voluntary role that I am so passionate about is extremely rewarding. To have the opportunity to kindle that spark of interest in students of all ages is very satisfying. I have worked with so many people on student and youth initiatives and very much hope that together we will continue to inspire young engineers to follow a career that makes such a significant contribution to society”.
Paul Hamer, Chief Executive Officer of WYG Group said: “We are delighted that Lynden has received the national recognition that he truly deserves. Aside from his tenacity, it is his limitless energy, dedication and genuine passion for engineering that makes him shine as a real ambassador for our industry and for WYG.”
