The draft Greater Manchester Spatial Framework has finally been released and the consultation period is now live. In response to this, our planning team has prepared a short summary of our initial views and the key points of the draft.
The new draft generally improves and expands upon the 2016 version. It is good to see the infrastructure strategy more clearly integrated and to see sustainability as a core element. Increasing residential densities around town centres and transport hubs reflects best practice. However, we do sound a note of caution on whether the market would support delivery of the higher densities required, within suburban locations and secondary centres, to the extent that is proposed and suggest that it may therefore be necessary to allocate additional sites to meet the housing requirement.
To help inform any representations you plan to make, our summary covers key points, such as housing projections, Green Belt release, site allocations and residential densities. Our planning team in Manchester are happy to provide further support in preparing those representations.
