WYG has secured planning permission from Torfaen County Borough Council for the redevelopment of the former Monmouthshire County Hall Site, Turnpike Road, Cwmbran.
Working on behalf of Kier Living Ltd, the proposals deliver 143 dwellings including 42 affordable homes, with associated open space, landscaping, access and infrastructure works. The redevelopment will deliver a variety of house types and sizes, including two-, three- and four-bedroom homes.
The former Monmouthshire County Hall Site has lain vacant with two historic unsuccessful applications since the former County Hall buildings were demolished in 2013. The site is surrounded by protected ancient woodland and a public right of way crosses the site to the south.
Negotiations with Torfaen County Borough officers helped shape the design and layout, whilst ensuring valuable site features are retained and enhanced. Careful consideration has been paid to safeguarding the woodland and maintaining a right of way across the site. A comprehensive planting scheme and natural public open space enhance the wooded character of the site. In addition to affordable housing, the redevelopment delivers improved local crossing facilities. The proposals were unanimously approved by Councillors at Planning Committee.
