Our experts have been involved in the planning of this major mixed-use regeneration project at Gloucester Quays from inception in the early 2000s to more recent requirements.
We initially acted as agents for the original outline planning application and as project team leader co-ordinating the Environmental Impact Assessment. We then produced the associated Environmental Statement back in 2004.
The outline planning permission was successfully renewed in 2014, involving preparation of an addendum to the previous Environmental Statement, again led by our experts.
Gloucester Quays regeneration project covers an area of about 25ha straddling the Gloucester and Sharpness Canal in the heart of Central Gloucester. The scheme provides for some 1,000 new homes, a new educational campus for Gloucester, 20,000sq m factory outlet shopping, 7,800sq m supermarket, two new hotels, the completion of Gloucester’s Inner Relief Road and many other important elements.
The scheme also involves restoration of historic buildings and enhancement of a Scheduled Ancient Monument, Llanthony Secunda Priory.
Our involvement has been in the implementation of nearly all phases of the scheme, including securing planning permission for numerous S73 applications, reserved matters approvals and dealing with discharge of conditions, involving the 73 conditions attached to the outline planning permission. Most recently in 2018, detailed planning permission has been secured for the final phase of the regeneration scheme, which will see over 400 new homes be constructed on the canal side.
