Our planners have provided town planning advice to the Science Park’s management team since, 1994 helping to more than double the available research and development (R&D) floor space on the site.
In addition to negotiating individual planning applications for new development, we have provided strategic and policy guidance. This includes the negotiation and development of new local plan policies as well as advise on the re-negotiation of the S106 planning agreements with Test Valley Borough Council.
The Science Park is owned by the University of Southampton and consists of 45 acres of land in a pleasant, landscaped setting just to the north of the Southampton city boundary.
Currently, the Science Park has more than 35 tenant companies (or other organisations) and there are about 700 people working on site including in the BSkyB New Technology Centre. The buildings on the Science Park have a gross floor area of about 3100sq m and detailed planning permission exists for a further 132,000 ft2 of office buildings.
The tenant companies must all comply with S106 agreements with the Borough Council. The terms of these agreements ensure that all companies are involved in R&D or the provision of high technology services and manufacturing.
Our continued work for the Science Park includes strategic advice on further growth proposals and the submission of representations on the emerging Local Development Framework.
